The parents of Brooke Valley School are planning a winter market this year with wonderful vendors or all kinds. We are selling wreaths and Christmas trees to be picked up at the Market. Plus we are ready to bake for you! You can pre-order and your food will be ready for you on the day of our Winter Market: on December 16th. You can pre-order Turkey pot Pie, Tourtiere, Gluten Free Tourtiere, Christmas Quiche. Order by December 12th and pick up your homemade goodies on December 16th at our winter market: There will also be many vendors there selling their goods for your last minute holiday gift needs. There will be crafts, vegetables, meat, maple syrup, and more! We are also serving hot soup and chili for lunch.

The assistant teacher is passionate about assisting and guiding students on a collaborative educational adventure that nurtures each individual intellectually and socially in a three-day school work week. The assistant teacher supports the lead teacher in implementing a curriculum that meets students at their individual levels of development in a multi-grade environment. The position is part time, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. and will be between 12-21 hours/week. RESPONSIBILITIES • Assist in teaching students of various ages and abilities within one classroom. • Assist in teaching French, Visual Arts and/or Physical Education • Think critically and strategically to respond to individual student’s learning needs. • Cultivate the passion for learning that burns in every child. • Assist in assessing student progress without the use of grades and tests. • Support a positive, structured learning environment. • Foster an experiential, holistic and child-centered approach to teaching that encourages problem solving and critical thinking in students. • Work with community volunteers in daily classroom activities to help students with specific subjects. • Assist in implementing a curriculum that supports a holistic learning experience that prepares students for life – and the eventual transfer to the public junior high/ high-school. • Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues. • Teach and model healthy communication and facilitate positive conflict resolution between students. • Create a safe space for individuality and expression. • Exhibit resilience and an aptitude for turning challenges into opportunities. • Constructively work with lead teacher in a collaborative mentorship type environment. QUALIFICATIONS • Personal drive to improve the minds and lives of students in and out of the classroom. • Experience teaching multiple grade levels an asset. • Comfortable working in a parent-run school that is integrated within a larger community. • Capable of accepting direction and working co-operatively to implement the school’s curriculum. • Enthusiasm for academic subjects for grades 1 through 8. • Minimum of two years teaching experience or experience working with children. • Open to, or experience with, alternative methods of assessment. • Passion for: nature education, visual arts, drama/performing arts, music, or other, is an asset. • Demonstrate an understanding of how to give children the appropriate degree of challenge in order to optimize their engagement and development. • Experience in working with students with special needs. • Advanced French necessary, bilingualism is an asset. • A Bachelors or Master’s degree is preferred. • Computer skills are an asset. Join us Saturday, August 12 for a day of games, food, stories and music. 3:00 pm - Soccer games, arts and crafts and science experiments. 5:30 pm - Potluck picnic.
